Book 1

Brothers Divided

The fate of the holy city sits on the tip of a scimitar.

They want to win freedom for their countryrodents, but as orphaned twelve-year-old squirrels, they feel more helpless than ever.

Sanu vows to train with their dad’s scimitar to fight the occupying enemy. He hears rumors that a great liberator has an army coming to save them. Sanu plans to join them, and his wimpy brother won’t get in his way.

Jab is left with their mother’s prayer rock and holy books. He can’t believe his reckless twin wants to charge into the fray and get himself killed. If everyone could sit down and talk out their differences, the invaders would surrender the holy city and go home.

War stretches its dark paws over Sanu and Jab’s hometown, and, caught in crossfire, they watch each other fall in battle. Both twins believe the other has died, and each is saved by soldiers from opposite camps. Joining those he once called enemy, Sanu works toward peace in Jab’s memory. Enraged by the loss of Sanu, Jab trains with a crossbow to avenge his brother and enact justice on the colonizers.

Home Shattered

The sea isn't the only thing that rages. 

Jab doesn’t recognize his twin Sanu anymore. Though they embarked on a mission to deliver a message of peace, he feels more alone than ever. When their offer of peace is rejected and the two are sent home with the battle-starved King Ridgerd’s army, a terrible storm attacks the ship, flinging Jab overboard.

Sanu, desperate to reunite with Jab, convinces Ridgerd to make landfall on Coppergrass Isle, where an unsettling upheaval has taken place. Sanu searches for his brother while the king tests his mettle against the local rulers. Sanu believes helping the king aid the locals is his best way to find Jab.

A foul baroness and an old enemy seek to rip Ridgerd’s army from him, not caring who they hurt in the process. The twins must help one enemy defeat another, unable to bear the thought of another HOME SHATTERED.

Shadows Protect Them

An unstoppable warrior meets an immovable defender with innocent rodents in the crossfire.

Failing to stop King Ridgerd from sailing to Qawar, Sanu is stuck between working with his brother to find a way for peace and doing right by the king he’s grown to admire. When he has a chance to slip away to the Holy City and meet with Nasalid, defender of the island, he does so, wondering if he’ll live to see his twin again.

It was Jab’s idea to split up, and now he wonders if he’s sent his brother to die. Jab is stuck with the king on a warpath, tearing up his home. Where his brother wants to find a diplomatic solution, Jab is determined to force these invaders off his island.

Nasalid is using all the island’s resources to defend it, perhaps only so he can be a king of the ashes. The brothers are running out of time before the island is ruined by the war, filled with FAMILIES BROKEN.

She and her friends are to spy on the tyrant who has an eye set on Risu’s home. And she can’t sit by while there are slaves on this island. The ruler seems more interested in taking their food than growing his own.

Blodtorstig is a brute who wants to expand his power. Not only does he have his own plans for Risu and her friends, but he has an alchemist who promises the power to turn rodents into frothing, rabid monsters. Commoners are just a commodity to him, and he has no problem using them in his foul experiments. Risu has to stop a famine, prevent a war, and free an island of slaves before the cold, starvation, and madness take over.

Juggling uneasy alliances, Risu finds that it is up to her to alert the cities to the impending danger, even if it means she must defy those who stand in her way.

Blodtorstig will stop at nothing until Kinoumi falls under his iron paws. Major cities lie in unrest, easy targets for the approaching invader. Rumors abound that some nobles will pledge themselves to him in exchange for wealth and protection.
